Face Time: Up Close + Personal with Katie Stevens

For Katie Stevens, skin care isn’t just about staying camera-ready — it’s a form of self-love.

No matter who we are, where we live or how we spend our days, we all share something in common — the sense of empowerment we find when we feel confident in our skin. At Skin Pharm, we get to witness this daily — and we’re sharing those stories with you through Face Time, a Q+A series that celebrates and elevates members of our community!

We recently caught up with The Bold Type actress, singer and Skin Pharm regular Katie Stevens. With a job in the spotlight, effective skin care is non-negotiable. But it’s Katie’s desire to carve out time for herself and set an example for her daughter that have changed the way she cares for her skin.

How long have you been coming to Skin Pharm?

Since Skin Pharm started! I went to see Maegan before she opened Skin Pharm, and once she started her line, I was all about it. I was having problems with my skin, and she told me what to try, and it all started working.

What’s your favorite treatment to get? How does it make you feel?

I love the Gold Infusion — it makes me feel well-rested and glowy and natural, and that was my saving grace when I couldn’t do other treatments while I was pregnant. When my skin was feeling kind of dull, they worked up a Botox-free concoction for me to put on my face, and it helped me feel like a human again! That’s been my go-to for any red carpet or before I start filming anything — it’s just the thing that makes me feel new and refreshed.

What are your top three routine staples?

I can’t survive without Crystal Clear clarifying pads. If I don’t use them, I start to have the worst breakouts. And then Youth Serum and High Beam.

Tell us a bit about your relationship to your skin. How has it evolved, and what role does it play in your daily life?

Oh boy. I used to have really bad cystic acne, and then I learned that I was allergic to benzoyl peroxide, which is found in a lot of skin care products to treat acne. I used to use that, and sometimes I’d wake up with scratches on my face because I was itching in the middle of the night.

When I first came to Skin Pharm, that was one of the things I had to tell Maegan — “I can’t really use benzoyl peroxide,” and she was like, “Don’t worry, none of our products have that in ’em!” It was perfect. Especially since my job requires me to wear makeup for 12-14 hours a day, I need a skin care routine where I can get all of that makeup off, put things on that help rejuvenate my skin and keep it healthy — products I can also use under what I have to wear every single day. That has worked wonders.

Like anybody with hormones, I get the occasional breakout. But I never really knew how to take care of my skin or had a routine. I never really watched my mom have a routine — she would moisturize, but there was never a step-by-step regimen that I witnessed. Now, I have a daughter, and I’m excited for the time when I can teach her the importance of taking care of her skin and having a routine, because we only get one face! So you gotta keep it looking good.

I’m bad with routines in general, but my skin care routine is the one thing I know I’ll do every day, and it’s therapeutic for me. I know that I’m taking care of myself, so it’s like a form of self-love.

Skin care aside, what are some other ways you take care of yourself?

Oh gosh. If I’m honest, motherhood is really hard. When I can (and when I have the time), I love to do yoga, work out, go on a walk, go on a hike — anything I can do to move my body. But right now, I’m really listening to my intuition and listening to what my body needs. Sometimes (especially with a baby!), that’s sleep for me. So I’m learning how to take care of myself in new ways.
